NOTE: Your custom paint by number can only come out as good as the image you put inFor best results, please make sure that your photo follows the guidelines below.

What Kind of Photos Work Best?

High-quality photos that feature centered subjects, high resolutions, and clear backgrounds work best. Ideally 1000x1000 pixels or higherAny image that does not have enough pixels needs to be blown up, which may cause details of that image to be lost. If the image you'd like to paint is low resolution or too smallno worries. We can still do it! However, the best color accuracy, blend, and definition comes from appropriately sized HD photos.

Consider the example of a high-resolution vs a low-resolution image below!

Pick the Right Size for Your Image!

Choosing the right size can be tricky but don’t worry – we are always happy to helpIf your image is square, we recommend 16x16in or 20x20in. If it is rectangular, 16x20in and similar will fit perfectly. Any questions? Get in touch! We will always ensure that your image is optimized to maximize the surface area of the canvas.

We highly recommend cropping out as much background as possible when creating a custom kit. Make sure that the faces are close to the camera! This way, they will be more detailed and less blurry, and it will be easier to capture face traits. The subject matter (i.e. your family, loved one, pet, etc.) should be the main focus of your image, and take up at least 70% of the image for the details to be prominent!

For complex and detailed photos, choose a larger canvas size. A 24x32'' canvas can fit more lines and numbers than a 12x16'' one! We can accommodate any size photo, but for detailed images, a larger canvas will turn out better. For family pictures and portraits, we recommend a minimum size of 16x20". If you pick the smallest 12x16" canvas, the amount of detail will be reduced accordingly.

High contrast and proper lighting are the deciding factors between a good and great paint by number kit. Pick a photo with neutral lighting and avoid shadows as much as possible. Intense background light can blur details and make them hard to capture and dark pictures may affect the colors. Ideally, the light should come from the camera angle.
